Top 10 Harry Potter places to visit in London

Hello writers and readers, 
As a fan of Harry Potter I thought to create a post of the 10 top places to visit in London about Harry Potter movies. 
I visited all of them myself,  Warner Bros studios excluded (such a pity) but it's the main target of my next London visit. 
Hope you will enjoy and you will find some interesting places to add at your next London tour.

Top 10 Harry Potter places in London   

 

1 Diagon Alley at Leadenhall Market 
where... Gracechurch Street - EC3 nearest Tube, Monument station

Diagon Alley is one of the most iconic locations in Harry Potter’s London, as it’s the high shopping street of the wizarding world. In the first movie, Leadenhall Market was used to shoot the exterior of the magical shops found in the alley. Leadenhall Market is a beautiful Victorian covered market with many different specialty shops. In the section of the market called Bull’s Head Passage you’ll find the blue shop front that was used as the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron in the film.



2 Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross Station
where...  King's Cross station 

The beautiful Victorian  building of St. Pancras Station was used as the exterior of King’s Cross Station where students board the Hogwarts Express on Platform 9 ¾ in the Harry Potter films. 
Here you’ll have the chance to take a picture (complete with a Gryffindor scarf) and to check out the adjacent Harry Potter shop


3 Harry Potter Warner Bros Studio Tour London
where... Leavesden, Watford 

It's the best location for every Potter's fan,
On the tour you’ll be able to visit the original sets of the Great Hall, Dumbledore’s Office, Hagrid’s Hut and many more. There’s also a beautiful scale model of Hogwarts, several props and costumes.

Easy to reach just take the train from London Euston to Watford, booking is suggested.

 4 Gringotts Bank  The Australian High Commission 
 where...  Strand  nearest tube Charing Cross station

The beautiful interior of the  Gringotts bank was shot inside the Australia House The Australian High Commission is housed in the building  and is not easy  to get inside, only for specific reasons as a visa application,  otherwise they will denied access. The amazing exterior, however, worth a visit.

5 Charing Cross Road

where...  nearest tube  Tottenham Court Road Station

Although it is a Muggle area, the Leaky Cauldron inn is located on this street, and thus wizards and witches can access Diagon Alley by passing through the inn. Charing Cross Road is renowned for its specialist and second-hand bookshops and more general second-hand and antiquarian shops giving the street an intriguing charm.

 

 

6 Westminster Tube station

Westminster Tube Station is one of the main locations Harry Potter uses when travelling in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and had to be closed to the public for an entire day during filming. Westminster is one of the most historic areas in London and is close to endless attractions including the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Parliament Square, Downing Street and the London Eye.

 

 

7 Reptile House, London Zoo

where ... Outer Circle, Regent's Park - NW1

Find out if you have Harry Potter's gift of Parseltongue (being able to talk to serpents) at London Zoo. The Reptile House is home to some of the biggest snakes on earth, as well as lizards and crocodiles. It is here that a python speaks to Harry for the first time.

 

8 Tower Bridge

In The Order of the Phoenix, Harry flies along the Thames and over Tower Bridge on his broomstick.

 

9 Piccadilly Circus

At Piccadilly Circus you can walk in the footsteps of the three main characters. It is through here that Harry, Ron and Hermione run during Deathly Hallows Part 1, when they flee the wedding of Ron's older brother after learning Death Eaters are on their tails.

 

10 Lambeth Bridge

It’s on Lambeth Bridge that the Knight Bus has to squeeze between 2 oncoming double-decker buses in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The next bridge downstream is Westminster Bridge.

One way to build your brand in your area is to network with local authors. You can find them on social media quite often. 

On Facebook, you may see a group called “Texas Writers and Readers” or something like that. Or you can do a general search for “writers” or “readers” groups and then ask who lives near you.

You can also Google book clubs (physical book clubs) in your area and connect with local readers and/or writers.

The saying “there is power in numbers” is true. You may find local authors who are willing to do a multi-genre showcase or event with you. Perhaps at a local craft fair or an event hall that you rent. If several authors are participating, the cost could be significantly less. 

The lesser cost isn’t the only benefit to doing a multi-genre event. Having more options for a wider variety of readers will draw more attention to your table or booth. (something for everyone)

Don’t look at authors, even those who write in your same genre, as your competition. View them as allies in winning the war against the bad reputation Indie authors often receive. 

But there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Make sure you check out the other authors’ books on Amazon to ensure they align with the quality of yours. You wouldn’t want to be a Christian author who ends up having an erotic romance author show up with suggestive banners or book covers at a local church event you orchestrated.
2. Make sure you all agree on splitting the cost of the event – table, venue rental, and even decor.
3. Make sure you don’t overbook your table to the point that some books wouldn’t even be seen.
4. Make sure you all take part in cleaning the place up when your event is over, to leave a good impression on the leasing representative, for future events.
5. Try to talk with this person over the phone at least once to get a feel of his or her personality. Is she a Negative Nelly? Is he a Boisterous Bob? Does she run off at the mouth, dropping the f-bomb every few minutes? Does he tell racial jokes or demean women? These are not deal breakers for everyone, but like I said, make sure the people you choose to participate in your event, represent your standards, as they will be interacting with the same potential customers you do. Not to mention, you will be forced to sit beside these people for possibly several hours! Everyone needs to be professional.

Connecting with authors in your home town or nearby towns can be the beginning of beautiful friendships, critique groups, support systems, and hopefully increased sales – if it’s done right.

Social Media Rules for Indie Authors

Hello writers and readers, 

Today I would like to introduce a new topic: Social Networks Rules for Indie Authors. 

Well like most people know nowadays social media usage is growing and is now part of our lives. For many of us, using social media sites is a very common thing, most of us share photos with family and friends and we as writers we post our photos of our books for promoting it, connecting with other authors, readers and fans.

I research the best rules to how to use social media and how not. 

1 When you post something on Facebook, Google +, maybe about the last book you have read or something about your book, is because you want a interaction, attention, from others, that's right but you have to reply to everyone that comment your post, doesn't matter who is because this is the basic thing you have to do, don't ignore the comments you get and don't click like because it is rude. 


2 Many writers post on social media Facebook especially, links to their books every day, but this could be considered spam and people ignore it. Instead be social with authors, readers, interact with them  post about your books in groups, then spread it out and doing it all at once swamps friends news feeds.

3  Post fun photos of your books in curious places or events, photos of a book are also a good way of getting the word out. No need to post buying link, just fun pics.

4 Social sharing is good to helping others, it is about interaction, engagement and mutual support, when someone need help do it but cheer them also when they are doing well too, If you share others book don't expect anything in return, just do it as if you like it. Give first, ask later. The best rule of thumb is to give more than you take.

5  Listen: listen and observe, see what’s being said online and how you can participate. Dialog: communicate, remember the cocktail party example.Participate: join in, share stuff, be helpful. Don’t be afraid to share your opinion.

6  Leave your wallet at the door: don’t show up online wanting to make money. Show up ready to share and enlighten. This will take you much further.

7  Be honest: it’s tempting for some to embellish or lie. Who’s gonna find out about it, right? Wrong. The Internet has a way of sifting out the fake stuff and embracing the real messages.

8  Focus on building social Karma (always do favors, never ask for them or expect them).

9  90% of your content should not be about yourself or your book. You should be sharing other people’s posts, researching and finding useful information online, helping out people solve problems, and making positive relationships by providing value.

10 Build a platform comment on other people’s blogposts or Facebook posts or tweet. Share their stuff. Offer constructive feedback (not just praise). Be a connector – introduce people to each other when they can both benefit from the relationship, even though you won’t profit from it.

Aliens on the moon

Aliens on the MOON? Breakthrough as scientists discover OXYGEN on Earth's satellite. Solar winds are blasting oxygen from the Earth to the Moon in what could be a major breakthrough for finding life elsewhere than our planet.

 

 

 Could aliens be on the moon?

 

Scientists had long given up on finding alien life on our Moon due to its barren, dusty state - but the discovery that there is some oxygen could reopen the investigation.
On Earth, oxygen is, along with water, one of the key ingredients to life.
Researchers have now discovered that during a five-day period of each month, the Moon is showered with oxygen ions from Earth.
During a short period of each month, the Moon passes through the Earth’s magnetosphere – the magnetic shield which protects us from radiation, something that the Moon does not have.

 Solar flares release particles that stream out into space

When it does, the lunar satellite is protected from the solar winds and is instead littered with material from Earth’s atmosphere – most significantly oxygen.
Astrophysicist Kentaro Terada from Osaka University in Japan told EOS: "Our new finding suggests that the Earth-Moon system coevolves not only physically but also chemically.”

 The Moon is showered with oxygen ions from Earth

The research from Terado and could go towards explaining the Moon’s rocks chemical composition.

When scientists analysed lunar rocks in 2006, they found that oxygen levels did not match up to what they should be for a celestial body with no atmosphere and no signs of life.

 The Earth's magnetic shield protects us from solar storms

However, the discovery that it picks up oxygen ions from Earth goes towards explaining the imbalance.

Terada told the Atlantic: "[Earth's] upper atmosphere consists of oxygen ions that are easily picked up by the solar wind and transported to the Moon.
"Maybe some portion is implanted on the Moon, and some portion is lost into interplanetary space."

Trying to solve to open a globe like a task Machin assigned to her, she's been trapped inside the globe and transports to a new world far from Havembrim.

I liked the idea of the Lanterns with magic globes, hope the author think to write other sequels, because the Lantern theme could have multiple variations.
